Provenance: Alexandria, VA private collection. Mettlach wares were made by a pottery founded in Mettlach, Germany. It was famous for producing plaques, vases, jardinières, table wares, and other decorative wares. In 1836 the factory merged with another one, founded by Nicolas Villeroy, to form the famous ceramic company Villeroy & Boch (V&B).

By the late 19th century V&B had seven factories altogether, but the one at Mettlach, most famous and celebrated for its production of steins and these beautiful decorative wares. As a pre-owned work of art, all listings sell AS-IS.

We've done our best to represent their condition in the pictures accurately, but know that all listings have a long history and may come with the normal wear and tear of being treasured heirlooms. Statements here reflect our honest, educated assessments but are not guaranteed to be accurate. We collect out of a passion for the art and its history, being exposed to new artists and makers, and meeting fellow collectors and enthusiasts. Sales here fuel the ongoing hunts of our collector and consignor base and 85% of Bardot's direct acquisitions support charitable organizations.
