Today we would like to present for your consideration, a beautiful 6 1/4 inch long Nut dish by Anna Marie Valentien. Stamped appropriately Rookwood, 1895, 279 (shape number), and 99, it also is inscribed AMV for Anna Marie Valentien.
This is an unusual dish as the outside of the piece is molded to resemble a walnut shell. Amazingly, it is without crazing.
Under normal light, the dish appears a glossy blackish brown, and relatively uninteresting. But under bright light or direct sunlight, it sparkles with a brilliant tiger eye effect. Bands of green and yellow glaze are specked with dense fields of gold. The beautiful flowers can be seen when you display the dish upright on a stand. Some flowers are painted in and some are just outlines which make for an interesting visual effect. The collector of this piece will not only have a beautiful piece to display, but will be the caretaker of a rare piece of American art pottery history.Authentic Rookwood Pottery with shape number, year and artist moniker.
